Property Desciption
Own a slice of American history, the Griffith Worthington House c. 1776. This is by far one of the finest homes in Historic Annapolis, and a fine example of early American Georgian/Federal architecture with much of its original late 18th century woodwork finishes intact. Nestled on Duke of Gloucester Street, this home is literally surrounded by American history. You can walk along the cobblestone streets and brick sidewalks over to the State House, the Naval Academy, and the ever-vibrant Annapolis city dock.
Entertain inside or in the private courtyard, and relaxing by the working wood fireplaces in both the living room and master bedroom. There is also a two car garage and two parking spaces in driveway within the private gate. This home is fully-documented in the Maryland Historic Trust.
Property History
The Worthingtons owned the property in the early 1770s. In 1798 the federal tax assessors valued the property at a substantial $800 on its half acre lot. The property was sold to Dr. Edward Sparks in 1841 along with a few other lots. Then in January 1875 George Miller Duvall purchased the property and later passed the property to his sisters. The sisters Meliora and Catherine Duvall negotiated with the city alderman about the Conduit Streets right-of-way and coordinated reduction in the size of their house in exchange for a $500.00 annuity for life, plus restoration of their house. This house has been home to many notable Maryland families throughout its history. Make this rare legacy yours and own a slice of history.
