At DC Studios, Doris is passionate about her art and committed to working closely with both her private clients and design professionals to create or restore works of stained glass art. She encourages her clients to become involved in the experience and teaches them about both stained glass design and materials, resulting in a creative experience for all concerned. 

 

When needed, she collaborates with her husband Conrad, whose professional experience as an architect has provided invaluable help for her clients when planning the proper installation of their stained glass . Important first steps consist of listening to her clients needs and desires, observing the intended space, and understanding the light relationship in the location that will receive the stained glass. Detailed designs are approved before a single piece of glass is cut. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of a project is selecting the glass from the extensive inventory at the studio however, skill in selecting just the right piece of glass from the hundreds of square feet at her fingertips is well respected. 

 

Students taking her master classes, in a studio setting, have the ability to observe the work of a glass master in progress. Doris lectures frequently about her glass work, especially with regard to the history (and serendipity) of a 120-year-old, 60-square-foot figural stained glass window that she recently restored, designed by Elihu Vedder in 1863, and attributed to being made by the Tiffany Studios in the 1890s.
